Too Faced Chocolate Bar VS Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette Comparison Review & Swatches

Today we are going to be talking about two of Too Faced's most popular eyeshadow palettes. I held back on purchasing them because I couldn't decide which one to buy. Clearly I had a weak moment and eventually bought both of them. As their names suggest, these palettes are made to look like bars of chocolate which is simply adorable. The coolest part is, they even smell like chocolate!
I'm glad i held back on purchasing the original chocolate bar palette because they did change the packaging to make it less bulky. Unfortunately, they kept the eyeshadow names on plastic sheets instead of printing them on the palette, so you do have to keep the plastic sheet if you want the names of the shadows for reference.
Both palettes come with a little guide book of eyeshadow looks you can do (I have no idea where mine are - sorry!), and have a magnetic closure so it is relatively safe for travelling. They both consist of 16 shadows and are a mixture of matte and shimmer shades, but the semi sweet has one more matte shade than the original. I also noticed that the original palette opens further back compared to the semi-sweet, so the mirror in the semi-sweet sits at a more comfortable angle while you do your makeup.
Shades in the Original Chocolate Bar Palette (Left to Right): Gilded Ganache, White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Black Forest Truffle, Triple Fudge, Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semi-Sweet, Strawberry Bon Bon, Candied Violet, Amaretto, Hazelnut, Creme Brulee, Haute Chocolate, Cherry Cordial, Champagne Truffle
Shades in the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette (Left to Right): Licorice, Coconut Creme, Nougat, Truffled, Hot Fudge, Cocoa Chili, Pink Sugar, Pudding', Blueberry Swirl, Peanut Butter, Frosting, Rum Raisin, Caramel, Bon Bon, Butter Pecan
The original palette consists of cooler shades while the semi-sweet has warmer shades. I'm personally more drawn towards the warmer semi-sweet. I like how Too Faced made the highlight shades bigger than the rest as those are the shades you tend to use more of. The shadows in both palettes are really creamy but you do have to be careful when working with some of the shimmer shades as there is quite a bit of fall out. I do find that the quality of the original chocolate bar palette is better in terms of the pigmentation, especially with the matte shades. I had to really layer the matte shades in the semi-sweet just to get them to show. The longevity of the eyeshadows in both palettes are similar, they last the whole day with an eyeshadow primer.

Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette
Both palettes are very beautiful and they differ enough to justify purchasing both of them but if I could only have one of them it would probably be the semi-sweet, only because it has more shades that i would actually wear.

The palettes retail for $69 each at Sephora Singapore.

NYX Butter Gloss Review & Swatches

Today we are going to talk about my favourite lip glosses on the market, the NYX butter gloss. I only own 11 shades out of the 22 available but i'm definitely looking to collect all of them.
Packaging wise it is pretty standard, plastic with a doe foot applicator and a stopper which removes excess product on the wand. The tube is 9cm so it doesn't take up too much space in your bag for touching up, and you get 8ml of product.
These glosses are extremely creamy, pigmented and last a good amount of time on the lips without being sticky like most lip glosses. You can wear them on their own or over lipsticks. I usually wear mine over lipsticks to lighten/darken them since I have pretty pigmented lips. Not only do these glosses look and feel great, they even smell incredible! It smells like vanilla cake and I always end up taking my time to apply them just so I can get a whiff of it for that extra 5 seconds.
BLG14 Mageleine: Mid-Tone Nude
BLG07 Tiramisu: Brown
BLG08 Apple Strudel: Peach
BLG03 Peaches and Cream: Pink Coral
BLG06 Peach Cobbler: Red-Orange
BLG05 Creme Brulee: Natural
BLG15 Angel Food Cake: True Mauve
BLG01 Strawberry Parfait: Fuchsia
BLG12 Cherry Pie: Red
BLG20 Red Velvet: Deep Red
BLG22 Devil's Food Cake: Deep Plum
Swatches (In order of appearance):
Out of all the shades I own, I would say my favourites are BLG14 Madeleine, BLG07 Tiramisu, BLG15 Angel Food Cake and BLG20 Red Velvet. If i could only choose one lip gloss formula for the rest of my life, it would definitely be this.

These retail for $10 at Sephora Singapore but they don't carry the full range of colours so you may want to check out Carousell as well.

Morphe Brushes Jaclyn Hill Favorites Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

I've been putting it off for quite a while but I finally decided to start a beauty blog so I can justify the excessive amount of makeup I have and what better debut post than one with the queen, youtuber Jaclyn Hill!
Jaclyn collaborated with Morphe to come up with a limited edition palette of her favourite colours from their collection. The palette went on presale on New Years' Day this year and the website literally crashed, so many people were not able to purchase it. Morphe did a second presale in April in order for people have a second chance to purchase the palettes.

This palette is no longer available on the Morphe site but I thought I would write this post anyway. You will still be able to purchase it from ebay or buy the shadows individually since they are all in Morphe's permanent collection.
The palette consists of 28 eyeshadows, a mixture of matte and shimmer shades and measures 23cmx15cm. Not the best for travelling but at least you know the shadows are a pretty good size and will last you quite a while. They retail for USD27.99 but flat rate shipping to Singapore was an additional USD20.15 so essentially the palette was about SGD64. Shipping was relatively fast (mine took about 2 weeks) and the items were packaged extremely well so none of the shadows broke in transit.

The palette is plastic so it feels like pretty cheap packaging. It doesn't come with a mirror so some might not be too happy about that, personally it does not affect me since I usually use a separate mirror anyway. However, what I'm most disappointed about is that the palette itself does not indicate "Jaclyn Hill Favorites". It is printed on the box it comes with so if you did purchase the palette for Jaclyn Hill you probably won't throw the box away. You can store it away but I keep my palette in the box after every use so it is a little troublesome. However, buying the palette is still ultimately cheaper than purchasing them individually so I'm willing to look past that.

The eyeshadows in this palette are very warm toned and has some pretty bold colours. I found that the shimmer/metallic shades swatched way better. They are super creamy and pigmented whereas the matte shades were less pigmented and appeared a little more chalky. I have used some of the shades in the palette and they lasted on my eyelids the whole day with concealer as a primer underneath. That being said, I've never really had a problem with oily eyelids and my eyeshadow fading throughout the day anyway.

Swatches (Swatched from left to right):
1st Row
2nd Row
3rd Row
4th Row
I included a photo with the individual eyeshadow shades listed on them. If you're looking to purchase some of the individual shadows to try out I would say my favourite from this palette are ES76, ES64, ES75, ES13, ES20 and ES74.
You can buy the palette on eBay at an exorbitant price, if you do not care so much for the box you can purchase a empty Morphe palette at USD9.99 and the individual eyeshadows at USD2 per piece and put them in yourself. Since they are the size of regular Mac eyeshadows you can throw them in a empty Mac palette or a existing Zpalette if you do not wish to purchase the empty Morphe palette.

Overall, I would say this palette is worth purchasing if you're a fan of Jaclyn Hill or wish to try out Morphe eyeshadows but don't know which colours to pick. For the price, these shadows are incredible and you can do so many looks with the wide variety of colours. However, I will say if you're not a collector of makeup or prefer matte eyeshadows to skip this palette. There are brands with better matte eyeshadow formulas out there in my opinion.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post and thank you for taking the time to read it. Do leave your thoughts in the comments below as well, I would love to read them!

Xueqi
